Planning has been an occupational theme in my life since entering The Ohio State University’s School of Architecture in 1973. Architecture is about organizing, planning and building space. In the same vein, financial planning is about organizing, planning and implementing one’s financial life. Unsurprisingly, bridging those two fields was not a straight line and one that led through working in an inner-city rescue mission for six years.
After stints in both NYC and Los Angeles as an architect, the Midwest called me back to marriage, children and an on-going architectural career. My volunteer work at the time included helping people plan their finances and get out of debt. I became so interested in helping people and in finances that I left architecture and went to work for City Gospel Mission as their CFO.
During my tenure there I completed my CFP®® certification and shortly after began working for a planning firm. After almost two decades, I’m still planning and enjoying working with families and individuals to help them reach their goals.
